Diane Dufresne and Michel Cusson are two monuments of music in Quebec and their respective careers, both here and abroad, have marked important moments in our history. Today, they present ÉTAT DE SIÈGE, the fruit of an unexpected, yet highly creative collaboration! We must go back to the heart of a certain global pandemic that kept artists out of concert halls to understand the creative process of this album. While attending the virtual sessions that Michel Cusson was hosting live, Diane quickly realized that she would find in her music and her compositions the spark that would allow her to crystallize this long-imagined album concept based on a very specific idea: a story told where everything takes place on the same day and where all the characters end up crossing paths. Diane was therefore able to select 11 pieces from Michel's creations on which she placed her lyrics and her story. An unusual process, but one that ultimately produces a thematic album where all the stories follow one another, even though they can be listened to individually. Once Michel Cusson had finished revising the chosen music, it only took Diane eleven days in the studio to record eleven songs. A project and a creative process of over two years for the great Quebec Diva, but once in the studio, everything was there. ÉTAT DE SIÈGE brings together two immense talents and offers original, largely musical content that even the two artists do not wish to define or qualify so as to leave the full pleasure of discovery to the public. Diane demonstrates through her creativity, her poetry, and her unique voice that she is still to this day, at her venerable age of eighty years (celebrated last September), the artist she has always been and a woman "of today" who still has a lot to say. The album cover is a magnificent creation by Canadian painter Dominic Besner, "La muraille blanche" (2011). A brilliant concept (with guest vocals by Paul Arcand and Sophie Thibault), two geniuses united at the peak of their art, and over 50 minutes of listening. Diane Dufresne delivers poignant lyrics while Michel Cusson signs a grandiose music.
